ANDREA JENKYNS
Eric Pickles meets Morley Market Traders

Following an advert in the Morley Observer advertising a meeting to set up a new group; ‘Friends of Morley Market,’ it prompted Andrea Jenkyns to invite Secretary of State and Yorkshireman Eric Pickles to meet local market traders.

Andrea saw the advert and attended the meeting last Monday, those present included local traders and the Market Manager David Wilson.  Ms Jenkyns a former retailer who was a retail manager from her early twenties, had a deep interest in what they had to say at the meeting. Many mentioned the need to promote the market better and highlight the benefits, this prompted Andrea to contact the Minister and ask if he would also visit Morley Market, which he gladly agreed to do.

Miss Jenkyns said; ‘Morley market really does offer great value for money and customer choice and I will do all I can to promote the great offer. As a former retailer who began my working life on the shop floor as a Saturday kid, and worked my way up to management; including a time spent locally at the White Rose centre.  I understand the needs and challenges that retailers face, and how every sale really does count. When there is a drop in footfall it is important that we look at innovative ways in which to promote what the high street has to offer, and I will do all I can to support them. ’
