ANDREA JENKYNS
Statement: Hustings 23rd May
I am disappointed that the NUT decided to misleadingly advertise my attendance at a hustings in Morley. I would like to clarify that I did not confirm my attendance prior to this being advertised publicly and I shall not be attending the NUT’s event on the 23rd May due to prior commitments.
While being the MP for Morley and Outwood I made over 20 visits to local schools in the last year alone, I was elected to be the vice chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Education and I constantly monitored the performance of schools in our area; including regular praise for our fantastic schools such as Jerry Clay Academy which was recently rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted or praising The Morley Academy, which was awarded the World Class School Mark, during Prime Minister’s Questions.
I want to build on that work and continue to engage with pupils and teaching professionals. Being a new mother, education is not only important to me professionally but personally. Throughout the campaign, I will be visiting more schools and talking to students and staff directly and I look forward to the Conservative manifesto outlining the Conservative’s vision on education over the next few days.
I also look forward to future hustings around the constituency in the coming weeks.
