Potholes in Outwood and campaigning

We have been out and about the constituency campaigning and delivering my latest magazine.  Today four volunteers and I went to Outwood.  I do enjoy being out there campaigning and meeting local residents, it also allows you to get to the heart of local issues and pick up concerns along the way.

Tribute to Mayor Brian Holmes

I know how difficult it is losing a loved one & my sympathy and condolences are with the family of Mayor Brian Holmes who passed away this week. I know he was a respected and well liked councillor.

Conservative Party Conference 2013

At Party Conference this year, I had many events and meetings lined up, which included meeting with charities to discuss how I may be able to help. I also had the opportunity of meeting with our Prime Minister David Cameron and was able to discuss with him constituency matters and highlight key concerns.

Morley Against Reckless Construction rally

I attended the public rally in Morley regarding the LDF (Local Development Framework) and the proposal to build nearly 8000 homes in the Morley Borough area. I also had the opportunity to address the 200 residents who were objecting to the Leeds City Council’s plans.

Wakefield Express Column

As mentioned in my last column, planning and development are indeed incredibly important issues affecting people within our area. The Labour run Leeds City Council is proposing to build 8,000 homes in our area which includes building on our greenbelt sites. We need new houses and development, but, we need to make sure the infrastructure is in place to cope with it and we must begin by making better use of our brownfield sites.

Diary of a candidate: Bolts from the blue (Total Politics)

Continuing the theme of writing; I was recently asked to contribute to the Total Politics Magazine. They wanted me to write a light hearted column regarding life on the campaign trail. So here is my first go at writing it:

Local Development Framework (LDF) meeting

Planning issues are still on-going and this week I have been to several meetings regarding such matters.  The constituency comes under the jurisdiction of two local authorities; both of which the Labour Party have the majority. I have had two meetings regarding the Local Development Framework (LDF) and the councils proposals to build 8000 homes in the area which is predominantly on greenbelt land.

Campaigning in and around Drighlington

I had the exciting opportunity recently to talk about my experience as a Conservative in the North on BBC Radio 4 and take the team from the BBC canvassing. We met a floating voter and also a gentleman who is an ex-miner, who votes Conservative.

Yorkshire’ Eh Bah Gum Festival’ in Morley

What a wonderful day Saturday, and the Morley Chamber and all the organisers deserve to be congratulated for a very enjoyable, engaging and fun day at the festival. There really was something for everyone; from encouraging people to get involved with sport and the chance to have a go at playing tennis, through to sampling local food, engaging with charities plus many more different stalls.
