On Sunday I attended the Remembrance service in Morley. There were hundreds of people who lined the streets as the march proceeded through the high street towards the cenotaph.

Politically Speaking (Wakefield Express)

Ploughing extra money into an organisation does not guarantee services and standards will improve. We need to pull together, stop protectionist propaganda, be productive and face up to the fact all organisations including the NHS can be improved.

Campaigning & Casework

It has been an enjoyable week with lots of campaigning. We finished delivering our magazine last week and had two evenings telephone canvassing. On Saturday we campaigned in Kirkhamgate and Wrenthorpe and Alex Story our MEP candidate along with his son helped me for the day.

Discussing the future of Morley and Outwood with Eric Pickles

Campaigners have been given the chance to tell a senior Government minister about their concerns for the future of Morley and Outwood. Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government had a private meeting with Morley and Outwood Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate Andrea Jenkyns

Leeds University Freshers Fayre

I think it is important that young people are engaged in politics and that they have a voice. It was with this in mind that I helped out on the Conservative stand at the Leeds University Freshers Fayre. I met some great people who want to get involved, I especially want to say how I respect and admire the work that both Chris and Beth do for Conservative Future, the young Conservatives arm of the party. The are both relentless and work extremely hard.

Morley Business Awards Ceremony

It was a privilege to attend this years Morley Business Awards, which are a celebration of business and enterprise in Morley. I was sat on the same table as the owner of Sue’s Kitchen in Morley. I must admit I do have a soft spot for their homemade soups, and especially the Mushroom flavour and cannot resist calling in for a hot bowl. It was an eventful and enjoyable evening and there were so many outstanding local businesses who were nominated.

Meeting Morley Fire Fighters

It was a pleasure to meet with some of our local fire fighters, to listen to some of their concerns and see if there was some way that I can support them. As you can see by my rather large grin on the photograph, there is something rather nice and comforting meeting five strapping lads! We are clearly in safe hands.

Supporting our Soldiers

My Dad was in the Royal Scots Greys during conscription and I have always tried to fundraise and use my singing as a way to raise money for soldier’s charities including the Help for Heroes. I had the opportunity to meet with Sid West a Veteran from the area and discuss the difficulty that he and other Veterans are having in regards to their pensions.

Childcare in Morley

I have met with several residents over the last few weeks, trying to listen and support them with any queries and concerns that they have.

Morley Literature Festival

I attended a luncheon at the Morley Literature Festival Literacy Lunch. The guest speaker was an author who had been a newspaper editor for many national tabloids. It was an interesting discussion about history and it was a speech made by David Cameron that was the inspiration for him writing his latest book.
