Places of worship and homelessness charities

This week, I was glad to see that the government announced the reopening of places of worship for individual prayer. Understanding the significance of faith and prayer for millions of the country, MHCLG has been working with faith leaders, through a Places of Worship taskforce, on the safe and phased reopening of places of worship. The announcement has been received positively by religious communities, and this has been long awaited news for many.

Furthermore, after a successful bidding process, an additional £6 million will be allocated to frontline homelessness charities to support their vital work. This is part of a wider package of support for roughsleepers, including our recent landmark commitment to provide 6,000 new supported homes for vulnerable roughsleepers taken off the streets during the pandemic.
