Morley & District Press: Getting Up to Speed With You

In the final edition of the Morley Observer earlier this year, I wrote of my sadness that our area would be without a local paper, but also my pride in the local people that filled its pages over the years with such positive and uplifting stories of bravery, charity, kindness, hard work, and Morleian spirit.

Morley has always been proud of our distinctive and independent character, and having our own newspaper was emblematic of this. I’m pleased, therefore, to welcome the Morley and District Press to our area, to once again report on our community and local events.

I look forward to, in my role as Member of Parliament, keeping residents informed of my work and to highlight the great things going on in our local area by writing a regular column.

Recently, I have met with local residents on Peel Street and Albert Road in Morley, and discussed their wish for speed cameras to enforce the 20mph speed limit in this area. Since this meeting, I have collected signatures in our area to ask the Police, and the West Yorkshire Casualty Prevention Partnership, to take action to reduce speeding by increasing the police presence and introducing speed cameras.

I look forward to their response and I will, of course, update residents as soon as possible. For the most up to date information on this, and my other work- please do visit my website at: AndreaJenkyns.co.uk

I feel sure the pages of this new local paper will be filled with the community spirit I know our area prides itself on, particularly as we approach Remembrance Day and Christmas. One great example of this that I feel should be celebrated, is the new Blue Plaque on Morley Town Hall, for Morley born Prime Minister H.H. Asquith, that was recently unveiled. I was honoured to participate in the unveiling with Cllr Wyn Kidger, well done to all involved for securing further recognition for the history of our area.

Finally, I would like to remind residents that if you need my help please do not hesitate to contact me via: Andrea.Jenkyns.MP@Parliament.UK or 01133 450 380.

Although recently the House of Commons has grabbed the attention, I am first and foremost your local MP. I am proud to work tirelessly to represent our area and support local causes. Every day I receive countless letters, emails, and phone calls from constituents needing my help and although not always successful- I try to get a positive outcome for everybody. Please do let me know if I can help.
