The Education Secretary visits Morley and Outwood

I was privileged and honoured to welcome the Secretary of State for Education, Rt Hon Gavin Williamson, to our local area today. Education is a big focus of mine and it was a pleasure to showcase our fantastic schools to the relevant minister, just the day after we received the visit of the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary.

It was a great honour to inaugurate the new Quarry Hill Campus of Leeds City College, an incredible new building with modern facilities that will make learning so much more interested for the student. We met the CEO, Colin Booth, the staff, the students and even Jeffrey, the therapy dog used by the school.

The rooms involve special facilities for social care, education, video game design and many other disciplines. It was also great to see the impact it had in the surrounding area, improving a neighbourhood that already hosts the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the BBC Studios, Northern Ballet, NHS England, DWP and many other institutions.

I'm pleased that local educators got the chance to speak to the Secretary of State, and that our local area will continue to go from strength to strength in educating our young people.
