Dog (DNA Databases) Bill Presented to Parliament

.

Andrew Griffith, Member of Parliament for Arundel and South Downs, will today be introducing a Bill to Parliament calling for the creation of a DNA database for dogs.

The Private Members Bill will be introduced after Prime Ministers Questions. The Bill is backed by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) as an alternative to microchipping, which can often cause pain and suffering if inserted incorrectly.

Additionally, microchips can be cut out when an animal is stolen. It is hoped that by replacing them with a DNA database, it will be harder for animals to be stolen in the future.
