After a series of concerning reports regarding the maintenance of Morley Cemetery, my staff conducted a site visit to inspect the condition of the grave site.
It was apparent that many graves had been damaged due to lack of appropriate care. I have raised these concerns with Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council (LCC), who has since relayed the issue to the Leading Area Officer.
Council operatives have now been instructed not to cut with large ride on mowers and instead use smaller mowers to cut the grass around the gravestones. The operatives have also been asked to take greater care, ensuring that those who rest there are shown the dignity and respect that they deserve.
