I have today written to the the Secretary of State for Business, Alok Sharma, to express my deep concern over the plight of the hospitality sector.
The restrictions due to the current health crisis are having an historic impact on the British economy, and despite some of the most extensive in the world support packages, it is vital we do not underestimate the severity of the situation for many local businesses.
I am concerned by recent figures of a £7.8 billion loss in revenue for the UK hospitality sector, and the future in tier 2 and 3 areas not looking any easier for these businesses. I am urging the Government to consider all the options in order to support the sector and facilitate its recovery. Having spoken to many local publicans and hospitality owners I know that they have worked hard to make their pubs and restaurants covid secure, they are determined to keep people safe.
I have told the Minister that I would welcome an opportunity to meet and discuss what the Government can do to help support these vital sectors.
