It was a fantastic honour to have the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP in our local area today!
The Prime Minister walked on Queen Street amongst local residents, being welcomed by passers-by, who stopped for a chat on Brexit, local issues or to take selfies. He then visited West Yorkshire Police's Carr Gate's training centre, with the Home Secretary Priti Patel and myself, where we met with local police, after announcing a boost in recruitment, and was treated to our police showcasing their training skills. He then gave a speech on the current situation in Parliament and the European and domestic agenda. It was great that the Prime Minister chose to put West Yorkshire on the map in this way, highlighting our fantastic local police, and emphasising his commitment to recruiting more officers to keep our streets safe.
It was fantastic to have such a senior figure in our area today. They addressed our brave officers, met local residents in the high street and energised our conservative activists. It was an absolute pleasure and I'm glad they received such a warm welcome.
