I was delighted to hear that we hit our vaccination target over the weekend, ensuring that the 15 million people who were most at risk of COVID-19 had been vaccinated.
I know how tough so many people have found this lockdown, whether it be the effect on mental health or on jobs and local business, but with our world class vaccination programme, I genuinely believe that this provides a clear direction for us to lay out a roadmap to ease lockdown in the not too distant future.
As we continue the fight against COVID-19, the next phase of the rollout has commenced with letters being sent to those aged 65-69 to invite them to receive their first dose of the vaccine.
It’s a fantastic achievement that this number of people have been vaccinated in this short space of time, and I’d like to thank all those who continue to work on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19, and all those volunteers who are stepping up to help support the national vaccination effort who continue to do this country proud.
