Andrea calls for longer sentences for those guilty of animal cruelty

As part of an ongoing campaign, Andrea has been working with animal welfare charities to try and change the current legislation and increase the maximum prison sentence for those found guilty of hurting animals.

As things currently stand, the maximum penalty for animal cruelty is only 6 months imprisonment. Andrea thinks this is far too low and wants to see the maximum penalty increased to 5 years.

It is vitally important that MPs like Andrea keep up the pressure on Government to ensure that those found guilty of hurting vulnerable animals face the full weight of the law.

Andrea said: "Following the letter I received from the Department for the Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, I am pleased that the Justice Department has also put on record that they are committed to increasing the maximum penalty for animal cruelty"
