You may have not known that at Williams Tanker Services Ltd, this month’s shop floor showcase business, the Ministry of Defence run training sessions for personnel.
Williams Tankers is part of a family of companies who are the biggest leasers and renters of tankers in Europe and at their site. The Army learn to drive and repair road tankers on-site, helping to prepare the armed forces in their important duties.
With over 40 employees, this local Morley firm has been in business for over 40 years and is set for exciting new investment both for the premises and in staff as it merges with TIP Europe.
During my visit I met with Mark Crossland (Managing Director), Peter Hughes (TIP Europe), Zoe Thornton (Operations Manager) and Stephanie Sherwood (Business Developments). The morning started with a briefing where we discussed the business’ successes, the current business environment as well as the challenges and aspirations the company has locally, nationally and internationally. We also touched on the value of apprenticeships and I was very pleased to hear that the business is looking to take on a number of apprentices.
Following the meeting I toured the site and met with Nick Mell from the parts mechanical team and Phil Boden (Workshop Manager) and I saw the tankers being painted and prepared ready to be handed over to their owners. Each tanker is made ready to order, I saw how the team prepared each of them according to what the future owner plans to carry. This will affect the labelling and legal notices required.
Mark explained that Williams Tankers is the only business to be able to procure a road tanker ready in 2 weeks, compared to the average of 8 weeks in the industry due to the fact that this unique site is the only one in the UK that stores new tankers ready for sale.
Stephanie and Zoe were also proud to highlight that the company is very popular when it comes to industry shows which they regularly attend. The business recently exhibited tankers in Birmingham’s NEC and the team is certainly very much looking forward to their next exhibitions. They are exhibiting at the FPS Expo in Liverpool on the 10th and 11th May (Stand No. 13) and the Tank-ex Show in Harrogate from the 1st-3rd of June (Stand No. ML35). Anyone interested in this business can meet the team at these events on their stand.
As always I would like to thank the team at Williams Tanker Services Ltd for showing me around their site. This business was personally close to my heart as my father drove his own lorry before starting his own haulage company and therefore I especially enjoyed my morning with the Williams team. I wish you all the very best both through your planned investment and for the future.
