Compassionate Care and Continued Support for Mental Health

I welcome the Government's work on mental health, including more funding to help those in need, appointing a Minister for Suicide Prevention, and raising awareness. Locally, I am committed to helping residents with mental health issues access help easily.

Working with carers, Dementia Friends, and the Alzheimer's society I host regular Memory Cafes across the constituency. These cafes offer a place for those with dementia and memory loss to come with their families, friends, and carers, to chat, share a cup of tea and snack on some cake. We aim to show that people living with dementia are not alone, and can share their experiences with those trained to give advice and support.

Additionally, myself and my office team are all trained as Dementia Friends, so we can offer help and support to those in need. I welcome and support other local establishments becoming Dementia friendly, to increase awareness across Morley and Outwood.

Mental health issues also affect our young people. I have hosted mental health round tables with charities and local stakeholders and written to the Secretary of State for Health with the aim to improve access to counselling in our local schools. I will continue to fight for improved provisions, and increased awareness, in order to improve the lives of people across our local area.
