Morley and Outwood Jobs Fair attracts hundreds
A jobs fair, organised by Conservative candidate Andrea Jenkyns, attracted over 300 job seekers to Morley Town Hall. The Morley and Outwood Jobs and Skills Fair was organised by local Conservative parliamentary candidate Andrea Jenkyns to promote jobs and apprenticeships in the constituency. At the event, sponsored by Associated Waste Management and Corecom Consulting, over 300 visitors met representatives of 30 organisations, who were advertising jobs, apprenticeships and opportunities.
The fair was opened by Yorkshire sports magnate and Tour de France organiser Sir Rodney Walker, along side Morley Mayor Cllr Wyn Kidger. Local firms intoo and First Choice Recruitment led communications and CV writing workshops, to give job seekers the skills they need to impress potential employers. A number of high profile companies advertised vacancies, including Yorkshire Water, BSkyB, and Skipton Building Society, alongside local firms and training providers.
Andrea Jenkyns said “There are lots of great opportunities in our area, whether people are seeking their first job, want to start an apprenticeship, want a change of career, or are getting back into work. I organised the jobs and skills fair to show people what’s on offer and to show employers the high quality of candidates they can find on their doorstep”. She went on to say “As someone who started work on the shop floor at 18, I know getting the job you want isn’t just about being able, it’s about showing your ability, so with the help of a couple of local firms we put on skills workshops to help people show employers why they’re right for the job.”.
Drighlington resident Tony Ashton said “The communication workshop was interesting, an open and relaxed environment. It’s great to see so many new opportunities in Morley.”.
Local businesswoman Paige Smith, of Tingley said ”I think Andrea has done a brilliant job with the Jobs and Skills Fair. It’s helped a lot of small and big businesses. We’ve had a lot of interest.”.
