Andrea Discusses Haulage with Industry Leaders
Today I met with representatives from the haulage industry and discussed how things are going for their business, which helps to put fuel in our cars, food on the supermarket shelves, and clean water – through water treatment chemicals – into our taps.
Due to market pressures, largely brought on by the pandemic, there is a shortage of HGV drivers. For example, in the past year thousands of HGV driving tests have been unable to be completed which has led to an imbalance when people leave or retire from the profession. We discussed in detail this issue and the things that could be done to help to keep this industry afloat.
I will take these conversations back to Westminster and discuss this with colleagues.
